AFTERCARE

Please follow the specific aftercare instructions given to you by your artist. The following instructions are a guide to help you if you need it! If you have any questions or concerns about your new tattoo, please contact your artist directly or email us on contact@auraninetyfour.com.

LEAVE YOUR BANDAGE ON UNTIL YOU GET HOME

Your artist will wrap your tattoo with clingfilm before you leave the studio. This is to protect your new tattoo from any dirt and bacteria, so please leave this on until you get home and are able to clean your tattoo. There is no need to re-wrap your tattoo unless your artist has advised you to do so. If your artist has wrapped your tattoo with Second Skin or Dermalize this can be left on for up to 4 days (your artist will let you know when to remove it).

WASH GENTLY WITH WARM WATER

After removing the wrapping, wash your hands well and then wash the tattoo and surrounding area gently but thoroughly with warm, clean water. You can use a small amount of unscented soap to remove any excess plasma or blood from the skin.

PAT DRY WITH A CLEAN PAPER TOWEL

Pat your tattoo dry with a clean paper towel and let the area fully air-dry (around 30 minutes) before applying any aftercare cream.

APPLY A THIN LAYER OF AFTERCARE PRODUCT

If your tattoo feels stiff or dry after washing, you can apply a THIN layer of product over your tattoo and massage it gently into the skin until it is completely absorbed. We recommend Palmers Cocoa Butter or a natural/fragrance-free moisturiser. Do not leave a thick layer of cream on your tattoo.

KEEP YOUR TATTOO CLEAN WITH WATER AND SOAP

Make sure you are cleaning your tattoo 2-3 times a day; morning, afternoon and evening, before applying your aftercare product. Make sure you aren’t touching your new tattoo or the surrounding area without washing your hands first!

REPEAT THIS PROCESS FOR A FEW DAYS

Repeat the daily cleaning process for the first few days, depending on how the tattoo looks and feels. Once your tattoo has scabbed over please leave it to heal naturally. DO NOT scratch your new tattoo or pick at the scabs as this can cause infection.

NO SOAKING IN WATER OF ANY KIND

During the healing process… NO swimming pools, NO jacuzzis, NO ocean swimming, NO baths, NO soaking in water of any kind! Showering is fine, just don’t get the tattoo wet for too long and make sure to pat dry with a clean paper towel afterwards, do not rub!

BE CAREFUL IN THE SUN

Your skin will be even more sensitive after being tattooed, so NO sunbathing during the healing process. Once your tattoo is healed, please use a high-factor, broad-spectrum sun cream to keep your tattoo looking its best.

HOW LONG WILL MY TATTOO TAKE TO HEAL?

This really depends on the size and style of your tattoo, as well as how quickly your skin heals. For example, a tattoo with fine lines will generally heal a lot quicker than a piece with lots of shading or blocks of colour. You can ask your artist for a rough idea of how long their tattoos usually take to heal, but most take between 2-3 weeks.

If you are concerned about how your tattoo is healing or have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact your artist or send us an email on contact@auraninetyfour.com.
